Spring may be over, but a little Spring cleaning doesn't have to be! Ever think about organizing that mess of earrings you have lying around? This cute way of getting those earrings together can be easily made at home for a low cost! All you need is an old frame, some wire, and staples. Simply cut out the middle of the frame, adjust your pieces of wire from side to side, and staple. The finished product is a simple yet elegant creation :)

Course Reflection
Upon starting Digital Art Media class, I thought that I was pretty
‘fluent’ in technology, but throughout the course I learned over and over again
that there certainly was a whole lot that I didn’t know. This class was both a
learning experience… and fun (say it isn’t so)! I got to
discover new websites on the internet that I never knew existed before this
class and would have totally been all over! Sites like Animoto, Aviary,
Textorizer, and my personal favorite, Tagxedo, really allowed for us to explore
what’s out there and apply our personal touch through different forms of
digital media. A plus to the class was that everything Phoebe found for us was
FREE (I love the sound of that)! Not only does that make it less stressful and
more enjoyable, it also increases the chances of using the websites and other
resources again :)
Our first assignment was called ‘Urban Landscape,’ where we went
out (in the brutal cold :P) with our beloved phones and captured a handful of
pictures. I was skeptical at first, but (minus that once again, brutal cold) I
actually had a lot of fun doing it. I learned different techniques, angles, and
what to look for through our reading material. The following week we got to
edit the photos on Picnik, something I had used a DOZEN times. As Phoebe would
have it, I actually learned some new things. Although Picnik is now shut down,
what I learned is not. I learned exactly what it meant for a picture to be too
‘grainy,’ and what saturation, contrast, and sharpness all contributed to a
photo. At large, I learned what the names of the ‘effects’ actually were.
Another favorite was the ‘Day in the Life’ assignment. Using
Google Docs Presentation maker, we all made presentations of, just that, a ‘Day
in the Life!’ What do people love talking about more than themselves?… Er,
nothing! ;) All joking aside, it was another case of the ‘learning-without-knowing-it.’
Combining my newly-found exceptional photography and editing skills, I
incorporated them into a little story to input into Google Docs. The theme that
was followed throughout that week (and a few other) was cloud computing, and means
of making, editing, and storing things online. It was a great concept to learn
because it is definitely 'new age,' and I know how we can all struggle to keep
up with the times (besides Phoebe, she's hip).
In the end, it was fun to share my ‘life story’ and venture into
those of my classmates (another favorite human quality: nosiness)! I am
graduating, with one summer class to take, and will be starting my internship
this summer as well. I am in Public Relations/Communications and it is
definitely a field where digital media comes in to play. I will be helping
promote events and maintain my company's online material and I can foresee
myself using parts of this class to aid me in my adventures! All in all, it was
a great semester and learning experience. Phoebe, you did awesome and I will
definitely recommend your class! :)

Recipe Alert: S'mores on a Stick!
An awesome summer-appropriate recipe found in the book, Food on Sticks by Matt Armendariz.
The recipe uses a traditional homemade marshmallow recipe, though store-bought marshmallows work just as well (and are twice as convenient), melted chocolate (1/2 cup heavy cream and 1 or 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate morsels), crumby-up some graham crackers, voila!: The perfect summer treat :)
"Blown Away" by Carrie Underwood's new album!
Carrie Underwood debuted her senior album, "Blown Away" Monday, May 1. The album features her hit single, "Good Girl," and many other promising tracks such as, "Blown Away" and "See You Again."
A favorite of mine is track 3, "Two Black Cadillac's." The tune is a catchy, yet dark one, about a man who died and left behind a wife and an overnight mistress:
"Two black Cadillacs driving in a slow parade
Headlights shining bright in the middle of the day
One is for his wife,
The other for the woman who loved him at night
Two black Cadillacs meeting for the first time
And the preacher said he was a good man
And his brother said he was a good friend
But the women in the two black veils didn’t bother to cry
Bye, Bye Bye, Bye..."

Two black Cadillacs meeting for the first time

Get your copy of "Blown Away" at any local shopping center, and enjoy!

Bra aka iPhone Carrier?
Attention
all diva's out there in need of a new place to store your handy iPhones: your
bra!
This new
fad has to be one of the stranger things I've seen lately. Two entrepreneur
business students at the University of Washington developed the device that is
dubbed the name the "Joey Bra," in reference to kangaroo's carrying
their baby joey's in their pouch.
The
students noted in their website:
"Inspired by UW's vibrant Greek system,
JoeyBra was created for women who are constantly on the go and struggle to find
a place to put their ID, keys, or phones. From our own personal experience, we
know that women hate taking purses to dances, bars, or dance clubs. Leaving
these items at home can pose a safety risk, but with JoeyBra women will never
have to worry losing or damaging their valuables again."
Well,
you heard it girls, go get ‘em! ;)

Domestic Diva's love their outfits, but this one has to be the proudest!
I picked up my cap and gown today, and will be walking across the stage at Savage Arena this Saturday to receive my "diploma." It's been an exciting four years full of laughter, tears, numerous all-nighters, countless pots of coffee, dozens of notebooks, and of course, lots of learning in more ways than one.
I'm a proud soon-to-be University of Toledo graduate, and congratulations to the rest of the 2012 class! :)

Wedding Fever!
Last night, I attended a beautiful wedding. The ceremony was an intimate affair at Westgate Chapel, and the reception followed at Valleywood Golf Club with plentiful dancing, drinks, and fun to be had by all! Congratulations Brianne & Zach! :)

San Fran! :)
San Francisco-Bound! ♥
Three days after walking across the stage and getting my diploma from UT, I'll be taking off on a jet plane to this fabulous place. A special thanks to my wonderful boyfriend for this equally as wonderful gift :)
I've researched a few things I'd like to do:
1. Union Square - What fashionista doesn't have this place at the top of her
list of places to visit in San Fran?! Union Square is home to some of the
finest shopping, with places like Tiffany's, Saks Fifth, and Neiman Marcus.
2. Fisherman's Wharf - Plentiful shopping and seafood restaurants!
3. Wine tasting!!! - Self-explanatory!
4. Golden Gate Park - In reference to the picture posted above...
I can't wait to see the beauty of it in person!
5. Alcatraz - The eery island-turned tourist hot spot that once held
the nation's most dangerous fugitives! This will feed the little history bug in me ;)

Logo Creating
This week, using Aviary's Raven, I developed two different logo's that represent my blog :) It was a challenging experience given I have no previous skills in vectors, but I finished developing these two final pieces! My personal favorite is the martini glass and pearls :)

Text Art!
Using the GlassGiant.com, I transformed a picture of a crown into a pretty ACSII image!
Using Text-Image.com, I transformed a picture of two happily-in-love flamingo's into a more powerful ACSII image :)
Using Tagxedo.com, I assembled different words of love and the engine combined them all into a spelled out "LOVE" and created this lovely image for me :) It was cool to play around with different styles and sizes!
Using Textorizer 1, I transformed a picture of a book with pages shaped like a heart, and incorporated different words of love. It was easier to control what I wanted in this program with tools such as opacity, font, and size.
Textorizer 2, a more developed version of 1, allowed for me to create this image of wine being poured into a glass. I used different words for wine, such as white, red, merlot, chardonnay, etc. Then, I got to play around with the opacity, text size and font, line size, scale, and saturation.
With Excoffizer, I took a model with colorful make-up and created an image using different levels of opacity, angles, wiggles, and space between lines.

ART!
The two images above were made using the online program, Scribbler. I enjoyed using this site to play around with different 'scribble' tools and create fun pictures!
The two above pictures were created using, Scribbler Too. The difference between Scribbler and Scribbler Too is freedom to create what you want and play around with it. The first picture is a diamond that shines all around and the bottom picture is one created by uploading a picture of a pair of shoes and outlining them to give them a 'scribbled' pink effect.
The final two pictures were created using the program, Flame. The fire effect that it gives you is very cool to work with. The emotion I was shedding was happiness and excitement. The feeling I got after having such a close-to-summer day! :)

Video Mashup!
This is a video mashup I made featuring the movies, "Despicable Me" and "Space Jam." :) I imported the youtube videos into my computer, then downloaded and used Windows Movie Maker and a range of different transitional effects.
The meaning of the mashup is the girls being adopted by the monsters from space jam. Enjoy! :)

Face Swap!
Using Phoenix Image Editor on Aviary.com, I created this face swap of my boyfriend and I! My first layer was a picture I took of myself, and the second layer was a picture of him and I that I cropped to use his face. By image selecting and inverting, cropping and cutting, playing with the alpha (transparency between layers), then erasing and editing, I compiled the finished product - Ben's head on my body!
What a silly girl he makes ;)

A Day in the Life of Me!
Hello bloggers! I made a Google docs presentation featuring none other but the domestic diva! I hope you enjoy the pretty glittery background I included and random information about myself ;) I had fun using the Google docs presentation maker. It is a cloud app. That means that the whole presentation I made, along with any editing, will be used and stored online! No taking up space on my computer! The presentation was pretty easy to do. It was just like using Microsoft Powerpoint, but with less options. It still had all the basics and gives a nice finished product. Enjoy! :)

Railroad Crossing
This is a picture I took with a 5 megapixel iPhone a couple of weeks ago in a park. I edited this picture with picnik using various tools. The feeling I was going for was a child-like, olden days image. First, I cropped the photo to put the focus on the trains, yet still leaving some of the grass and sky. It was a perfectly overcast day, and I loved the way the clouds sat in this picture. Then, I used exposure to balance the colors. After that, I increased the saturation to add some grey to the picture to accentuate the parts, especially the clouds. I gave it a monochrome look, and I even added a bit of sharpness to make everything stand out. I then used the effect called "HDR-ish," which strengthens the photo and plays with the radius to give it a sharp, almost pencil-drawn look. Finally, I used "boost" to literally boost some of the colors (especially the blue sky). And voilĂ ! :)

Urban Landscape Video
This was a video I made for my digital art media class using Animoto, featuring the song "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri and photos I took a few weeks ago around the town I live in, Maumee.

Hello :)
Hello all. My name is Emily and I am apart of the D.D.A. That is, domestic diva anonymous. Alright, I completely made that up, but I do have to say that I enjoy all things domestic! Need a dessert for the bake sale at Church? You got it! Would you like a hand decorating that bare living room? I'm there! Whether it's stitching up socks, cooking dinner, ironing slacks, lending some boyfriend-advice to the girls over lunch, or hand-crafting a nice bottle of home-made wine, I'd have to say I'm guilty of all of the above. Follow me, and I'll keep you updated with all of my latest fashion trends, favorite recipes, and day-to-day advice with the things going on in my life. Enjoy! :)
